C1890 VERY SCARCE PHOTO CHANCE BROTHERS METAL FRAME LIGHTHOUSE LONDON FACTORY X57
We have for sale an original C1890 board photo of a Chance Brothers metal frame lighthouse assembled at the Chance Brothers factory, London, England. Chance Brothers were one of the main manufacturers of lighthouses in the world supplying many of the metal frame lighthouses that were built in Australia during the 19th century and early 20th century. Orders and specifications were sent to London and the lighthouse assembled, as this one is, then disassembled, packed away carefully and sent by ship. It is likely that the workers would have disassembled the lighthouse in this photo ready for shipment overseas. Many of Australia’s metal lighthouseswere made by Chance Brothers. The old lighthouse on display at Port Adelaide was built by Chance Brothers. Images of metal lighthouses displayed at the Chnace Brothers factory would be very scarce. The image is clear and sharp with a few surface marks. The mount board is aged and stained with corner bruising. There’s a double staple hole in the photo at the top to the right.
