DESCRIPTION:

We have on offer an original WW2 1948 Souvenir Programme issued for the War Nurses Memorial Centre Appeal presented by Victorian radio stations. The appeal was conducted at the St Kilda Cricket Ground on Sunday the 14th March, 1948. Thefeaturestory in theprogramme is written by Sisiter Vivian Bullwinkel, RoyalAustralian Army Nursing Service WW2. Sister Bullwinkel gives an account of the massacre of 21 Australian military nurses by the Japanese on 16th Februray, 1942 at Banka Island. She was the sole survivor who spent two years in a Japanese POW camp. She isconsidered one of the most noted military nurses of WW2. Shereceived many honours including being made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1993. Quite a number of stars andentertainers contributed to the fund raiser including, Alwyn Kurtz, Eric Pearce, Harold Blair, Maureen Boyce, Pam Corrigan, Red Moore and many others. The contributing radio stations were, 3KZ, 3XY, 3UZ, 3AW and 3DB. This programme would now be quite scare
